Advocating for proven policies that are grounded in racial equity

The past three months have been chaotic, reflective, disheartening, and inspiring, all at the same time. While our coalition has been strategizing together about what our advocacy in education looks like going forward, we also took a step back to reflect and refine our mission to fully represent the scope of our work together.

The reality still remains that one out of five Washington students currently do not graduate from high school. The class of 2020 and beyond will feel the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic on their education and career dreams. Now, more than ever, the coordinated efforts of education advocates are vital to build the systems and policies that will embrace and support these students and their future.

With that, we are proud to share our Mission and Vision with you. Going through the process of writing and collaboratively editing these statements together has been an important step in ensuring that we are all on the same page about what matters in our work ahead.

Mission
The High School Success Coalition advocates for proven policies that are grounded in racial equity and support every student on their path to achieve a rigorous high school diploma and pursue their dreams.

As a coalition, we believe:

  • rigorous classes are essential,
  • counseling services and support staff are critical, and
  • transitions are pivotal.

Vision
Every Washington student will graduate high school prepared with the skills to navigate a rigorous post-secondary education and connected with the resources necessary to take their next step.

As someone who supports collaborative partnerships like the High School Success Coalition, we’d like to invite you to participate in the conversation with us. With our mission and vision in mind, what do you think should be the number one priority for education advocates right now? Email us at info@highschoolsuccess.org and share your thoughts with us. We’ll share out what our priorities will be going forward as we approach the new school year.

Thank you for continuing to be an advocate for Washington students with us. We sincerely look forward to hearing from you.

Sincerely,

The High School Success Coalition
